National Heart Centre Launches Study to Improve Health of Frail Older Adults

The National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) has launched a five-year, $4.7 million study aiming to delay the onset of cardiovascular disease by addressing frailty in older adults. The study involves a 12-week program offering a customized meal plan and exercise sessions to participants at no cost.

The researchers are looking for physical frailty, early changes in cardiac biomarkers, and cardiac function among the participants. The study aims to raise awareness of frailty as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and educate people about the benefits of targeted diet and exercise interventions in reducing the risk of developing heart disease. Previous studies have shown improvements in heart function and reduced heart stiffness with exercise interventions, and the addition of curated diet plans might enhance the effectiveness of the intervention.

The study involves collaborating with various institutions and hospitals in Singapore.
